There is someone living on our streets who could use a friend like you. If you have the desire to help those in need and impact the state of homelessness in San Diego County, we invite you to join the Be a Friend – Impact a Life program.

Joining as a Service Provider to integrate the program in your organization

Hosting a Be A Friend information meeting or gathering

Volunteers

Volunteer Requirements

  • Attend a Be a Friend information meeting
  • Complete online training (2 hours) and application after completing training
  • Take your friend to breakfast or lunch at least once a month and connect one other time
  • 12-month commitment (4-7 hours per month) 
  • Follow agreed-upon Be a Friend boundaries and guidelines
    • No monetary or material gifts-the friendship is the gift
    • Follow through what you say you will do – schedules/contacts
    • Use of Google phone number for communication
    • You are an encourager – not a social worker, parent, counselor
  • Provide monthly updates as recommended on the Journey of Relationship

Neighbor Requirements

  • Follow agreed-upon Be a Friend boundaries and guidelines
  • Be available one to two times a month  for a meal and be open to getting to know a new person in your life
  • Have a desire to move forward in your life
  • Be committed to meeting and contact your friend if you need to change or cancel
  • No monetary or material gifts will be exchanged. The friendship is the gift,
  • Use of google phone number for communication
