Having relocated from Virginia to San Diego, Samiya and her son found themselves grappling with homelessness. Samiya, yearning to connect beyond the challenges she faced, was linked with the Be A Friend program through YAC. In this program, she was paired with AJ, a dedicated and experienced volunteer. AJ and Samiya have formed a deep bond through conversation, shared interests, and spending time together weekly. They both enjoy going on walks and to places like the zoo with Samiya’s son. Together, they are establishing a Personal Journey Plan to support Samiya towards a brighter future.
Youth Assistance Coalition (YAC) mission is to positively impact the lives of youth experiencing homelessness through empowerment, mentorship, and community collaboration in order to provide transformative opportunities.
