Meg and Star

Star, who was living at the Urban Street Angels temporary shelter after experiencing homelessness, and Megan, a volunteer friend, have created a unique bond that serves as a testament to the power of connection.

Star once felt the weight of loneliness. She shared, “I wanted a friend because I wanted to build a community for myself. We are a community and a society that should be in relationships. After rising out of my depression, I thought, it’s okay to go out and be social. It’s kind of a miracle.”

Her courage to step out and seek connection brought her to the Be A Friend – Impact a Life Program where she met Megan. Megan expressed, “I love the opportunity to have a new friend in my life. It is a gift to get to know someone that has had a different life than me and provide encouragement.”

Their friendship blossomed from this mutual desire for connection and understanding. Star has since moved to be closer to her son, but she and Megan are committed to staying in touch over the phone. Star and Megan’s story reminds us all that friendship is a gift, a chance to learn, grow, and support one another.

Urban Street Angels‘ mission is to end youth homelessness by providing supportive housing and job training opportunities to cultivate personal responsibility.
