Michael, a veteran who was once homeless, sought meaningful connections after facing the challenges of life and health issues while living on the streets following the loss of his job in trucking. UPLIFT was able to match Michael with an active-duty Navy service member who had a calling to help the homeless community after moving to San Diego and seeing the devastation on the streets. When these two friends met for the first time, Michael shared, “I never had children of my own, but now it feels like I have a ‘grandson’ to share things with.” They are looking forward to volunteering together and continuing to grow in their friendship.
