Edi, who was previously incarcerated and currently employed with Rise Up Industries, had spent much of his life without someone to turn to for advice. But that changed when he joined the Be A Friend program. Edi shared with us that he feels blessed to be a part of the program that provides support and friendship to individuals re-entering society.
Tim was initially hesitant about being a volunteer with the Be A Friend program, but had a change of heart after meeting Edi. Tim was struck by Edi’s energy, optimism, and unwavering focus on his future. Tim finds great hope in Edi’s determination and drive, remarking, “If Edi gets one-third of what I get with Edi, then he’s blessed.”
Their relationship quickly became a source of mutual admiration and support. Edi deeply appreciates the advice Tim has given him on various aspects of life, including relationships and finances. The ability to joke around and share laughs has made their bond even stronger. They now see each other as true friends, enriching each other’s lives in meaningful ways.
Rise Up Industries, inspired by the model of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, assists previously incarcerated and formerly gang-involved individuals highly at-risk of homelessness to successfully re-enter society.
